Innovation is born from careful observation, a willingness to experiment and dare greatly. But true genius innovation is the providing of a solution – answering a question- not yet even asked. These thoughts are what have kept me inspired as I have continued to develop the annual Santa Barbara Wedding & Hospitality Summit into its second year. What sets us apart from many marketing, PR and leadership consultancies is the distinguishing characteristic of not only having been in the catering, special event and hospitality industries in a grass roots capacity providing a full, well-rounded understanding of the nuances (and complexities essential for building success), but the ability to actually create successful packages and revenue streams which work for the particular business – and its geographic area (a commonly-overlooked caveat when some consultants are chosen).
Through our experience working with luxury resorts, boutique inns, catering companies and more, we have helped each company realize its full potential, create packages that they can move forward to market, and if desired, come back to train the staff who will be selling the property, catering and event packages and more.

Before we start here, please let me set some things straight: 1) This post is not out of blind arrogance or ignorance, inviting litigation (no one desires that) 2) I am not an attorney so if you need legal advice, contact a legal professional.
This post is merely sharing my experience so as to help others in the special event industry to relax a bit more and to go forward with confidence, and if the day comes where a client threatens to sue you, perhaps this post will have helped you realize more fully your power (or help you prepare to be more empowered) during the process.
Once upon a time, about 7 years ago, there was a mother of the bride who did all the planning for her out-of-state daughter bride. She hired me for “month of” planning. Continue reading “Lessons Learned From My Attorney: Tips For Not Being Sued (and being fearless if you are)”
As business owners, there are times things get tough. I mean, really rough. I have found that most like to “mask” or hide that part of their journey, implying that by some magic wand, they just were granted instant success. But the reality is in the middle of the struggle, that’s where the good stuff is found. Why? Because it is what forces us to get real. To evolve. And if we stay with it, the struggle just may bring you into the next chapter of your destiny. And when you have the courage to share your journey openly with others, you are not only helping them, but helping yourself. It also shows that you have learned and with more experience comes expertise. And with expertise, comes client trust . And with client trust come more bookings and revenue. So often in the wedding and special events industry, we see write-ups and features of lovely events after they have all come together. I thought it would be fun to journal a bit of the pre-event planning that is taking place for a client’s upcoming 20 Year Anniversary Celebration. We can’t give away too many details, as much of the end result is intended to be a surprise. Many of my clients ask me what we do at Engaging Inspiration for businesses when it comes to producing their events. The answer is that it can be as simple or as involved as the client wishes. In this case, we are collaborating with other event partners on the event aspect and then lending heavier focus to the PR/Marketing, social media, media and branding areas. experience for their guests, increase sales opportunities and “up” the level of luxury service in the minutia of the day-to-day communication for their high-end guests, we were thrilled to accept the challenge and custom-created a training that involved interviews with guests, management and co-workers as well as the front desk individuals themselves. Revolution is never about a one-sided approach and our goal was to understand their unique needs and challenges from all angles. After we came up with a Master Action Plan for all, including an incentive plan to celebrate landmarks, create comradery and checks and balances to Continue reading “Luxury Workshop for Resort Includes a 3 Step Mission Statement Process: Become, Experience & Do”
This last Saturday night was the perfect autumn evening to host a wine pairing dinner in front of a roaring fire in our Sycamore Room.
One of the benefits of being located in the heart of Santa Barbara’s wine country is that we have the opportunity to get to know our wine-making neighbors, who are purveyors of some of the finest wines in California, if not the nation (or world). The Lompoc “Wine Ghetto” (a collection of small wine production and tasting facilities) has experienced a huge boom in recent years. Perhaps it is because they are simply a collection of steel industrial buildings offering over one dozen tasting rooms at one’s complete disposal. Perhaps it is because they are unpretentious and beckon wine lovers of all levels and experiences to just relax and enjoy. No matter what the reason, the wine makers of these boutique wineries are especially passionate and love sharing their wine and wine-making stories with guests.
